Hello.
I was born and raised in Pictou, a small fishing town in Northern Nova Scotia. I lived within a few hundred yards from Pictou Harbour and have always had a passion for the sea. My father was a third generation fisherman who fished the waters of Northumberland Strait. As a young child I spent many a day with him as he worked on his boat and fishing gear. Living in the proximity of the water, I spent most of my summer time swimming off the nearby wharf, rain or shine. It is therefore, no surprise I had an attachment to the sea and all her moods and ever changing qualities. This lead, in later life, to the reasoning behind all my marine paintings. The play of colours, bold brushstrokes, calm and turbulence, soft and hard edges, line versus mass, all come together to pique interest. Although I paint mostly marine, I carry this passion and qualities to all my paintings. I bring this early attachment to nature forward in all my painting subjects.
